Description:
Since about 84 million Americans, or one in three, have pre-diabetes, the CDC established the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP), a partnership of organizations working together to build an infrastructure for nationwide delivery of an evidence-based lifestyle change program (LCP) for adults with prediabetes. The yearlong LCP is led by a trained lifestyle coach and focuses on realistic behavior change through healthy eating, increased physical activity, stress management and peer support, with a goal of achieving a 5-7% weight loss. This presentation will discuss the burden of pre-diabetes, the National DPP, best and practices for faith communities in scaling and sustaining the National DPP, and what your organization can do to stem the tide of prediabetes.
